Strengthening Industry-Academia Collaboration for Enhanced Youth Employability
On 8th July, 2024, Mbarara University under UCoBS Subproject 5 visited Nile Breweries Limited Mbarara Plant. This visit was coordinated by Mr. Amos Baryashaba as part of the Applied Curricula in Technology for East Africa (ACTEA) project spinoffs that Subproject 5 intends to take up.
The MUST IUC-UCoBS Sub project 5 visit aimed at strengthening the industry collaboration with Nile Breweries Limited (NBL) Mbarara plant which will be an opening to other industries like Roofing, Mukwano Group of Companies, Pepsi Company, Nile Breweries mother Plant in Jinja. Currently, Faculty of Applied Sciences (FAST) at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) and AP University Antwerp, are implementing a machine automation short course with Nile Breweries staff.
The purpose of this meeting was to establish a collaborative partnership aimed at coming up with a memorandum of understanding between MUST and NBL which will provide an invaluable opportunity to MUST community through automation short course training for both lecturers and students and internship placement opportunities for MUST students in all faculties at Nile Breweries. This aligns with Project 5’s primary objective of increasing youth employability through innovation, skill development, experiential learning, and technology transfer.
This partnership with Nile Breweries will be mutually beneficial. MUST students will gain invaluable hands-on industry experience, while Nile Breweries will have the opportunity to mentor and recruit talented future employees, thereby contributing directly to increased youth employability.
